Talk time.  What makes you scared?  Lots of things are scary if we have to deal with them on our own, but the good thing is that we have Jesus as our friend so if anything frightening ever happens we can ask Him to help us.  Lets pray about the things that make us afraid or worried and thank Jesus that He helps us.

Now we are going to see if we can remember the story by acting it out. Pick a child to be David.  Where was David at the start of the story? Lets all be sheep. Pick a child to be Dad.  What did Davids dad ask him to do? ( give David some packed lunch)  Where were Davids brothers?  Lets all be soldiers.( march round the room) Pick a child to be King. Put some adult clothes  on David.  Show the kids my sword,  its heavy and huge and they wont be able to lift it but they can try :)  What did David say about wearing the King's armour?  What did David use to fight Goliath? (use five playpit balls or something soft to throw) Pick an adult to be Goliath who shouts the challenge. Have David hit Goliath with a ball and Goliath fall to the floor.

Activity

David was only little and nobody believed he could kill Goliath but God knew that David was really good at throwing stones. Pouch and stones craft


Lets make a big Goliath.  Goliath was 9ft tall so I'll draw a 9ft figure on wallpaper or lining paper and have the children measure themselves against it to give an idea of how big he was.  They can then colour it  in or paint it. Then pin it to the door or wall and get all the children to throw balls or beanbags or whatever at it,  saying ' You come against me with a sword and a spear but I come against you in the name of the Lord!'

Game : skittles?  Parachute to bounce the playpit balls on.

Hide stones (snacks - maybe mini rice krispie buns? or marshmallows? )  around the room for kids to find. 5 each? Dont want anyone to be sick LOL

Extra week. Tower of Babel

Do you remember last week we were learning about Noah?  In the big flood all the people got washed away and Noah and his family were the only people left. When all the water dried up and Noah came out of the boat, what was in the sky? Yes, a rainbow. And what did God promise?  That He would never send a flood like that again. Today we are going to find out what happened next.  God said to Noah, I want your family to spread out all over the place and build your houses far apart. But Noahs children and grandchildren wanted to stay all together so they didn't do what God told them. Instead they decided to build one big huge house for them all to live in. They said "everyone will see our amazing house and will know we are the best builders and really important people." So the built higher (build with boxes) and higher....and higher. summer 2 Noah

 talk time. What is the weather today?  In different weather  we need different clothes. Show different items - wooly hat, wellies, gloves, umbrella, sun hat, sandals, scarf etc. Talk about the sort of weather we would wear these things. Read the story of Noah from the big picture book.  Take time for the children to look at the animals.  Ask  if anyone has seen a rainbow.
